Police said Luke Garlinger, 29, was driving more than 80 mph on Main Street when his pickup truck crossed the center line and slammed head on into a minivan. Prosecutors said a state trooper saw Garlinger driving erratically minutes before the crash and then saw the collision after turning around to follow Garlinger.
The 14 year old boy was treated for two broken arms and a burned leg and has been released from a hospital.
The driver of the van, 42 year old Shellie Blaisdell of Vermont, was taken to a hospital, where she later died. Blaisdell's 14 year old stepson was seriously injured.
The county attorney said the trooper smelled alcohol on Garlinger, but investigators are still waiting for blood tests to come back.
